Song names research
We thought it would be beneficial to do some research into the names of songs on CD's. So the first album I have looked at is Bad Blood by Bastille, the songs on there are:
1. Pompeii
2. Things we lost in the fire
3. Bad Blood
4. Overjoyed
5. These streets
6. Weight of living
7. Icarus
8. Oblivion
9. Flaws
10. Daniel in the Den
11. Laura Palmer
12. Get Home
Throughout the 12 songs there appears to be a running theme of something along the lines of home and living. The longest song name seems to be 6 words however there is only one of them which suggests they may not be as popular. The majority of the other songs are made up of 1 or 2 words. Therefore I think our album should include more short songs than long songs. There is also 12 songs however this is an original album where as ours is a special edition therefore I need to find out how many songs are in a special edition.
Ed Sheeran's special edition CD has 17 songs altogether- 4 of them being special edition songs. On the song list on the back cover, you can distinctly see which ones are the speical edition songs as they have been sepertad by a line. This song list is presented very simply, with no track numbers or anything else rather than the song name which i think looks very effective. The list is centralised which makes it the main focus. Again the colour of the text and colour of the background are contrasting which makes it stand out to the audience. Again you can see on this song list that the majority of songs are short, consisting of 1,2 and 3 words therefore this appears to be a convention of CD's. From this research i have found out a few things that we would be able to use to make our song list/back cover look professional and realistic:
- Making the majority of the songs consist of 1,2 or 3 words and only a couple which are longer
- Not putting the song tracks, just the song name
- Separating the normal tracks to the special edition tracks
- Including 15-17 songs- at least 3 of them being special edition tracks
