First Day of Editing the Final cut

Image
Today was the first day of editing our footage we filmed in Newcastle. We uploaded the footage and stored it in a file on the computer and then imported all 48 pieces of footage we had taken that day. While we were recording, we decided it was best of we shot the same scene 2 or 3 ties, so that we have a choice of which clip looks best when we come to edit it. So after spending 1 hour watching nearly 50 clips, we decided as a group which clips looked best and dragged the final cut clips into the time line on premier.

Filming of the narrative in Newcastle

Image
Today we went down to the Quayside in Newcastle and filmed some parts of our narrative in a range of locations that fit our theme really well. We were happy with the amount of footage that we have as we filmed each part several times to ensure that we had good quality footage for our video. From our first shoot we have learned that we need to be more efficent during our filming so on this shoot we were each allocated a role: Olivia was responsible for organising the location and the costume of our main protagonist. Caitlin was responsible for booking out and bringing all of the equipment and ensuring everything was charged etc.  Lucy and Helen were responsible for the filming of the scenes alongside the help of Olivia and Caitlin.

Rough Cut target audience feedback

In order to create the best final cut we can we have decided to carry out some audience research on our rough cut so we can make our final cut appeal more to our audience. We know our rough cut isn't how we want the rough cut to be like and plan to keep none of it as we aren't happy with our footage. So we asked a range of members of our target audience what we could improve about our video. Here are some things that they said: Haven't used a range of locations Band doesn't look very professional as they don't know words and aren't playing instruments to the beat The location we have used (house) isn't very professional Actress doesn't look very good as doesn't really fit the indie genre Don't really understand the narrative Too much band performance in comparison to narrative Acting on target audience feedback From our target audience feedback, we have decided to change the location of our performance to a more professional and bi...

Reconsidering our band performance location

So after our rough cut feedback and some self reflection we have decided that we are going to change the location of our band performance to the drama studio. We have made this decision as we believe filming in the drama studio will look more professional as we will be able to use coloured lights which we identified in our research as looking very effective. In our rough cut, the location we chose doesn't look professional at all and it is very cramped. However, in the drama studio there will be lots of space and it we believe it will fit in better with our genre and narrative.

Action Plan

Image
After receiving feedback from a variety of people on our rough cut we came up with an action plan. In this we planned what we had to do over half term and the next few weeks. Here it is:

Group feedback on Rough Cut

Image
Today, as a group, we watched our video and analysed the Camera Work, the Editing and the Sound, Image and syncing of performer to the lyrics. On a scale of level 1 (bad) to level 4 (Good) we rated our rough cut as a level 2 for each aspect. We wrote down how we think we could improve our video and will take the feedback we gave our self on board when we start to film and edit our final cut.

Rough cut verbal feedback

Image
During today lesson, as a class, we watched each others music videos and gave each other feedback of what we liked about each others videos and what we think could be improved. We asked the class 5 questions (shown below on the image) and wrote down peoples feedback. Although we did ask the class what they liked about our video, we are still going to shot the whole thing again, so that we can get better angles, lighting and shot types. General positive  feedback As you can see form our feed back, people have said that they liked the focus pulls we used on the band. We have therefor decided to use the fixed and zoom lenses again in out final cut as we believe this gave out video a 'killer' shots. Our class- who is also within out target audience age range- said that they enjoyed the story line, but said that it needs more establishment within the video as it isn't very clear. We are going to take this on board and make our narrative more clear for the audience. Loca...

Rough Cut Self Evaluation

Image
Today we planned what we wanted to find out about people's thoughts of our rough cut. We then answered the questions ourselves and gave ourselves a level based on the mark scheme as shown here:

Rough Cut

Today is the rough cut deadline, as a group we have all said that we could have worked harder to get more narrative filmed for our rough cut as we don't have as much as we wanted at all. We believe that our strongest part of our rough cut is the editing which we will carry through as we work on our final cut. We have spoken as a group and to make sure that our final cut is the best it could be we are going to: Get all filming done by the end of week beginning the 13/11/17 so we have as much time as possible to edit  Change our singer of our band as we don't think he is the best suited for our lead singer Change the location of our performance Go back to our original idea of having a male as the main protagonist  Use more varied locations in the video Use more equipment available such as the dolly and heavy tripod etc.  Here is the link for our rough cut:  https://youtu.be/yW3MbzdLxW4

Editing, Editing and More Editing..

Today we carried on with the editing of the rough cut. We imported the clips we felt were appropriate for the video and edited the length of the clips on Premier. We are almost finished editing the music video as it is due in on Wednesday 18th October. We all took turns to help edit the video, write blogs and think of more ideas for our final cut.

First Day of Editing Rough cut Footage

Today, we uploaded all the narrative and performance that we have filmed. We used the Adobe editing soft wear 'Premiere.' We moved all of our footage into this soft wear then re watched everything and picked the best parts and matched each shot up as best as we could to our story board. We then inserted our song into premier so that we could match our shots to the lyrics in the song. The deadline is next Wednesday for this, therefor we are gong to do some more filming over the weekend and Monday night.

The Performance Shoot

Image
Last night we shot our performance. We used a local studio which provided us with a drum kit, guitars, microphone and a stand for our band. We set up our RED lighting, LEDs and used a reflector to create the best quality lighting for our video. We shot wide shots (from different angles), close ups, pans (using the shoulder mount) and mid shots. We also used the fixed lens to create really sharp quality close ups on the guitars and other props. Here are some images from our filming.

News Scene Editing and Filming

Image
Today we filmed the scene of the news woman talking about how someone has ben spotted without their mask on. After filming, we then editing the footage to look like it is a real breaking news story from the news. We took inspiration form the image below to create our own breaking news banner on the image so it looks professional.

Completed Anamatics

After completing all of our storyboards we have put all of the frames into a video, covering the song. This gives us a more literate idea of how all of our shots are going to go with the song and match the beats and tune etc. Here is the link to watch our anamatics https://youtu.be/2TveHiAZIuw

Choosing a location for our band performance

As a group we discussed where we thought would be a good place to film our performance and the 2 potential places which we discussed were the drama studio at school and a band practice room at one of our friends' houses. After weighing up which one we thought would be best, we decided on filming our band at our friends' house. The reason for this decision were: The location has an edgy look to it- it is a red background and looks edgy which would like to our genre of indie/pop. Its different- it is a location that is unlikely to be used by other people in out year group, this will make our video unique Convenience- Our band have already used this location to practice in before therefore it is a comfortable location for them which is important

First day Filming

Today, we started filming for our rough cut. We filmed part of the narrative at Helen's house. With this being out first shoot, we feel like it went very well however for out next shoot there is a few things that we plan to change. We plan to be more organised as we didn't realise how long it would take to film such little and simple footage. We plan to do our next shoot on Tuesday the 10th where we are filming our band performance.

Finished Storyboards

Today we have finished all of our storyboards. They are all clear and detailed so it makes it easier when we come to filming so we know what we need. During the creation of our storyboards, we have all taken responsibilities to complete them. In lessons we worked together to write all of the details such as camera movement, duration, lyrics and description of the shot. We then took a couple of sheets home to complete the drawings.

Band Name Ideas

Image
Today we brainstormed for band name ideas. Here a few ideas we came up with. A few more we came up with were: Absurd Reality, The Enemy Inside, Burred Hopes.  We concluded that are our final band name would be Blue Moon.

Band Costumes

Image
After analyzing the way Bastille dress and different bands, who are of a similar genre to Bastille, we have concluded that our band will dress simply in colours black and white, whilst a couple of members wear a brighter colour jacket or shirt.
