Back: Full image of city seen through adam, with song names. Inside: Band photo by promenade, or other grungy location.

Post final cut planning

Yesterday, we handed our rough cut into the hand in folder and now have 8 days to put our full focus into the Digipack and Advert for our band Indigo Moon (Due in 8th December) . After we have complected the Digipack and advert, we then have 14 days to focus on the evaluation (Due in 22nd December.) As there is a substantial amount of work that we need to get done before the deadline for the digipack and advert is due, we have decided to split the group up and 2 people focus on research for the advert and 2 people research digipacks. Lucy and Olivia are going to research the advert while Caitlin and Helen are going to do some initial research onto digipacks. As today is Thursday, this only leaves us with 6 full lessons before the digipack and advert is due in. We therefor have decided to set our selfs targets for when the work we produce is in for. First target We have said that by Friday the 1st December, we will have produce a moodboard of adverts and digipacks. We will then sit...

Our Final Cut

We have uploaded our final cut to You Tube so you can use the following link  https://youtu.be/-32X_-GPzew  to see it. We hope you enjoy our video!!!

Final checks for the music video!

Image
We stayed behind at lunch to do all the last minuet adjustments to the video.... and WE ARE FINALLY FINISHED!! As Olivia was absent today, we face-timed her and let her watch the final video before we exported it. She said that she was really pleased and very proud of the video we have created. We asked Mr Convery to double check the video and he said that the new scenes that we filmed needed to be grouped in clusters of 3, to follow the rules of 3. After changing this, we have finally finished!

Feedback from Bland & Convery.. LAST MIN FILMING!

Image
Today is Deadline Day, and although as a group we believe we are finished, there's always room for improvement! So during our free's today, we all came to media and focused on the final details of the video. We asked Mr Ranft and Mr Convery to watch out video and give us some feedback. First up was Ranft. Mr Ranft said that he was impressed with our video, particularly the part where Alex is walking and there is lots of quick cuts of him walking in different locations. The improvement feedback we were given was that if we have time, we could possibly dd a filter to the part of the song where the tone changes for a shot period of time, to show the change in mood of the song. Next up was Convery. Mr Convery watched out video and picked up on the same part of the song that Ranft picked up on. Mr Convery said that the static image of Adam kills the shot a little bit as there's no movement and therefor densest look as effective. We have therefore swapped the static image of Ad...

Last bit of filming YAAAAAY

So, after our actor letting us down... AGAIN!!! We have no other option than to just leave the original scene in and not re film it. As a group we don't think the scene is a problem as long as we evaluate the facial expressions thoroughly in the evaluation.

Last day before deadline

We are planning to make this our last day of editing so it is exported before deadline day. This leaves time for any problems we may come across. So the plan for today is: Period 1&2- Olivia, Caitlin and Lucy are going to finish of editing the things that we need to change after getting some feedback from the teacher. Break- Continue editing Lunch- Do the final bit of filming (the last scene) Period 4,5 and After school- Finish the editing and export video

Acting on our teacher feedback

In today's lesson we started to make changes in regards to the feedback that Mr Bland gave us on Friday. Due to having some technical issues at the beginning of the lesson we weren't able to get much done. We worked together as a group and made some of these editing changes. As we didn't get done as much as we planned Helen and Caitlin are staying behind after school to continue with the changes as we don't have much time before the deadline. We don't have a media lesson tomorrow however Caitlin, Olivia and Lucy have frees in the morning so they are going to do some editing. This will give us time on Wednesday to make any final changes in time for the deadline at 4:30.

Disaster strikes

Today, we planned to re film the scene of Alex and Helen walking from the house after receiving our teacher feedback. However, our actor let us down therefore we were unable to film which is very annoying since the deadline is in 2 days. So we have planned to re film this tomorrow lunchtime in hope that everything goes well as this is our last chance to film before the deadline.

Title on the video

Image
We have decided to put a title on our video using the 'lemon milk' font - the same font that will be used on our digipack and advert. We will put this font in white over the time lapse footage of the sunrise we got the other day on Monday when it has been downloaded onto the computer. This is inspired by the Bastille Pompeii video and many videos by The 1975.

Plan for acting on teachers feedback

So, after getting some constructive feedback from our teacher we are going to put a plan in place to act on this feedback. Since posting the last blog, we have now established that we need to re film some more after getting feedback. This is our plan: Re film the clip of Helen and Alex walking out of the house- changing their facial expressions from 'determined' to happy. We are going to do this on Monday lunchtime Re edit the length of the clips where people have the words on their heads and masks on, so it matches the beat rather then them all being the same length Instead of the mask coming towards the camera although the audience are putting it on, we are going to change this to Alex and Helen taking it off the camera. Giving the impression to the audience that it is okay to reveal who they are- like Helen and Alex have done at the end of the video Don't cut from one angle to a similar angle in performance Re edit the direction in which Alex is walking as he is a...

Plan from now until the deadline.. 5 days!!!

As we have finished all of our footage, its all about editing now. We still have a lot of editing to do so we are planning to get as much done as possible before Wednesday so we aren't rushing on the deadline day. The times we are planning to edit are: Friday lunchtime  Friday 4th lesson Mondays lesson Tuesday lunchtime Using all of this time efficiently, we are confident that we should get our video finished before the deadline on Wednesday. This will leave time incase we have any problems.

Teachers feedback on final cut

We think we are finished our music video!!! However we are going to ask Mr Bland for some general feedback on our video & ask him if there is anything that we possibly need to re film and re edit. After watching the whole video twice, Mr Bland ages us some positive and negative feedback... Positive feedback ' The first third of the video is bang on- the footage of the narrative and the performance matched the beat of the music really well. It is so much better than your rough cut- it really is. The whole of the narrative is in focus and the lighting is really good. The dramatic dropping of the mask looks really effective'  Constructive criticism ' There is a slightly awkward edit at the beginning where Adam begins to sing.'  We are going to re edit this part at the beginning of the video to make sure that it doesn't look as staged. 'You've made 2 shots of the performance too similar and they are next to each other, this doesn't l...

Editing Editing Editing

The deadline is dawning on us, and we are almost finished out video! Today Lucy, Helen and Olivia stayed in at lunch to edit footage, make blogs, and ensure that all the clips recently add to the video match the drum beat of the video. We watched what we have created so are and we all gave our opinion of what we thought looked really good and what could do with improving. We all agreed that we needed more editing in our video, therefore we are going to spend the next lesson we have adding more techniques into the video such as shot reverse shot and parallel editing.

Filming more mask scenes

Image
During today lesson, we decided that we didn't have enough narrative footage in our video of everyone wearing mask- to portray the idea that everyone in society has to wear their masks. So we decide to record some head shots of people wearing their masks. Caitlin and Olivia went to the common room to gather around 10 people who very kindly said yes to being in our video, while Lucy and Helen booked out equipment and started to set up the studio. We wanted to just film a head shot of people on a white background, so we used the grid on the camera lens to ensure that everyone heads were central to the image. After recording everyone who came down, we uploaded the footage to the computer and edited it to ensure that the speed, duration and timing of the clips were all the same. We added the footage to the musiv vieo and made sure that the clips moved to the beat of the video.

Name of our album

We have decided upon the name 'Eclipse'. We think this is a suitable name for our album as it links to our band 'Blue Moon', although this isn't often done by other bands we thought it worked really well. We also believe that we can create some very effective imagery for our digipack in conjunction with the name 'eclipse'.

Filming the sunrise

Image
This morning Olivia and Lucy got up at 6:30 to film the sunrise, we planned to get to the beach for 7:30 in order to be there in good time for the sunrise at 7:53. We used the camera and tripod to film the sun rising which we are planning to speed up to put at the beginning of our video. We are going to use this footage to fill in the extra time we need to make our song longer. We are going to put the title and band name on top of this footage as we feel this is a very professional feature of a music video. We also filmed a shot of Alex sitting on a bench with the sun in shot, once it had risen. We think this is the last shoot we are going to need Alex as all we have left to film is people in masks. After filming we treated our actor, Alex to a subway breakfast due to the trouble of him getting up so early and freezing in the cold as we filmed.

Plan for filming of the sunrise

Image
So tomorrow, Lucy and Olivia are getting up early to go and catch the sunrise at Longsands beach with Alex as we feel like this would fit in our video really well. We have looked at the weather to see what the weather is like and also what time we need to be there for the sunrise. From the image you can see that for the majority of tomorrow it is expected to be rainy however the sun is meant to be shining at the time of sunrise. We are hoping that this is going to be the case so we are able to get some nice shots for our video.

Plan for this week.. Deadline a week today!!!

Its Wednesday and that means only 1 thing... The music video is due in a week today!!! Arghhh!! In this lesson, Helen is busy editing some performance still, while Lucy, Caitlin and Olivia are busy working on blogs, booking out equipment, helping Helen and giving her advice and organizing days which we can film the very last bits of narrative. As a group we have decided that every lunch time for the rest of this week, we are going to meet in the media room to get on with editing as the deadline is fast approaching, and we don't want to be editing any more footage by Monday night next week. We have set a target for our self to completely finish any narrative filming by Saturday and completely finish editing by Monday evening/ Tuesday morning AT THE LATEST, as we DON'T want to be one of those groups stressing and editing on deadline day! So, here's the plan for the rest of this week... Wednesday: Blogging, Editing and upload footage from last nights narrative footage....

Filming the Narrative Tuesday Evening

Image
Tonight, we are planning on firming a few scenes in the narrative. The scenes we are wanting to film is the mirror scene, where Alex takes his mask off in the mirror for the first time and leaves the house without the mask. We all finish sixth form at different times, therefor decided to meet up at 15:45 in Whitley Bay. Unfortunately, as this was a quick last minute decision, not all of the group could make it due to too other commitments. Alex however did kindly agree to let us film him! With this being the week before the deadline, all of the cameras were fully booked for tonight.. So, we went round asking the groups which have booked cameras what time they're using them till. Dan and Ollie's group had 1 camera booked out, and were out filming till 16:30, which was prefect for us, so we went to their house to pick the camera and tripod up. Eventually, after picking the camera up and setting all the equipment up, we got started with filming. Due to the size of the bat...

Advert analysis Catfish and the Bottlemen

Image
This advert for Catfish and the Bottlemen's album 'The Ride' is very simplistic with all of the detail being in the graphic design. This same design is used across their advert, digipak and merchandise to create synergy between the products making it immediately recognisable. We are going to use similar images on our digipak and advert so consumers can immediately tell they are linked and are recognisable.    Again they have used their band's logo on the advert as all other adverts do and we shall do this on ours. However, they haven't got any other conventions such as a release date or social media logos that are common throughout album adverts. Therefore on our advert we will add more of these conventions to make it look more professional.

Advert analysis Vampire Weekend

Image
The image of the city that has been used by Vampire Weekend links to the modern urban feel of indie pop. On our advert we will incorporate an image of a city as not only is this matching our genre it also links to our theme of society and how in a city individuality is lost as you are only one of thousands of people. They have used a font for their name that they use across all of their media products to create a strong brand and band identity. We will use the same font for our band across our digipak, advert and video. The record label is at the bottom of the poster in the centre. This appears to be conventional within music adverts and posters similar to this one and we will put our record label in this position on our poster. The mist and clouds in the image create a mysterious effect suggesting that the city is hidden and not clear to see. This links to our genre and our video and on our poster we will add a sense of mystery by hiding some of the information.

Advert analysis 1

Image
Text The text through the whole advert is bold, clear and easy to read. All the text, apart from the quirky font used to write the band name and word 'Faker' in, is all the same font, keeping a house style running through out it.  The quirky font has been used as indie bands tend to want to stand out from each other. The poster has added the name of the band in the boldest writing, as this is the main aspect that will draw someone into a poster if they know the band. The rest of the writing is wrote smaller, and the more important information on the poster is wrote in a bigger font- for example the date on which the album is released.  From this analysis, we are going to write the name of our band in big font at the top of our advert so that the audience are aware of who the band is. We are also going to write important information, such as hit singles on the album and the release date in a fairly large font, and keep information such as where you can buy ...

Gorillaz advert

Image
This advert uses a cartoon image to match the style of the 'virtual band'. We will use an image that links to the style and genre of our band and create a modern indie feel. Unlike other adverts I have looked at, this poster doesn't use the bands typical logo for their name. However it does use the same font as is used on the corresponding album to create synergy between the products and this font also links to the word 'beach' in their album title. We will use the same font or logo on our digipack and advert to keep a strong brand throughout the entirety of the release. Like other adverts, it has taken a very minimalist approach with most of the focus on the image and band name. This makes it very easy to see what is being advertised and makes it memorable. We will keep our advert simple as I think it gives it a more classy feel.

Initial ideas for digipack and advert

Image
In todays lesson, Olivia Caitlin and Lucy created a mind map of ideas for our digipack and advert whilst Helen got on with the editing. We worked as a group to discuss relevant ideas which we thought would be appropriate. We also benefited from some ideas from our teacher, Mr Bland who came up with some 'mint' ideas for what types of pictures we could take to link to our album name 'Eclipse'. As a group, we are very happy with the ideas that we have and plan to start taking our images very soon. Here are some of our ideas:

How do existing posters and digipacks link?

Image
I have gathered 2 different digipacks and adverts from a band and a solo artist of a similar genre to our band to see how they link they posters/adverts and digipacks together. Such as what conventions the carry across and how they create synergy between them. This research will help us on the construction of our advert and digipack as we will know what conventions we should use to link them. This will make them look more professional and realistic. Here is a digipack and advert from the same artist, for the same album- Divide by Ed Sheeran. You can see the most distinct way that they link is the colour. The bright blue colour is used boldly on both the digipack and advert, straight away you can tell they are both for the same album. The logo of the division sign is again used on the advert and digipack (front and disc) this again shows that it is from the same album straight away. They also to use the same font. We are going to use this as inspiration for our digipack and advert by ...

Digipack analysis 2

Digipack analysis 1

Image
Target Audience: Class- Working/Middle class Age- 17-25 Gender- Both male and female Ethnicity- Predominantly white British The Killers are a boy band of a similar genre to Bastille therefore will have a similar target audience. Therefore looking at their digipack will give us a good idea of what images, colours, and mise en scene to use. Front Cover It is very plain but effective. The image is light and very simple however the photograph itself is very good. The logo used for the band name is the most eye catching thing about it- it is very bold and takes up a large part of the cover. The color of the font is contrasting to the photo used which also makes it stand out. The convention we are going to use for inspiration on our digipack is using contrasting colors between the image and font used.  CD The CD again is very plain- using the color that is used throughout so you can instantly tell it is apart of the same thing. Again the most attractive thing about it is th...

Saturdays Filming

Image
Today we have filmed a large part of our narrative. Due to other commitments Lucy and Caitlin are unable to attend so Helen and Olivia worked hard together to make sure the footage is the best it could be. We are very happy with the footage that we got filmed and are planning to use most of it for our final cut. Here are some of the things we took to our shoot: Equipment: We used the heavy tripod as it makes the footage look more professional due to it being more stationary and smooth. We also used the shoulder mount for the tracking shots to make it look more realistic and add some movement to our video. Other equipment we used included the fixed lense and zoom lense. Eyeliner and Wipes: We took these to write the names on the peoples heads for when they aren't wearing their mask. Costume: We ensured that Alex was wearing the same outfit as last time to ensure consistency throughout our video. The outfit which he wore was dull and very plain which reflects his sad mood and ...

Arctic Monkeys AM advert

Image
Firstly, the band have used their band name logo on the advert. This logo is used across all of their albums and merchandise. It is a bold recognisable font that stands out against the background.  We will use our band logo on our advert and make sure it stands out. The main focus of this poster is the analogue wave graphic design which cleverly incorporates the album title 'AM' in the centre of the wave. Again they have used white for this to stand out against the black background. We have considered using some sort of graphic design or interesting editing on our poster to create quite a modern, simplistic look as this one does. They have included key information such as the album title, date of release and what formats it will be sold in. We will include important information like this on our advert so people know what is being advertised.

Mood board of digipacks

Image
Here is a mood board of different bands digipacks, including leading indie artists such as The Kooks, Bastille and Two Door Cinema Club. From creating this mood board, it has allowed us to see what conventions make a digipack successful. After a brief analysis of the mood board we have came up with a criteria of convention to add to each pane in our digipack.... Front cover Album title Artist Image Boarder around the image Back cover List of song names Small print about copy right, producer etc Production company label Clear basic image Front left Basic photo with no/ minimal text Possible photo of the band Single image Front Right (Behind CD disk) Basic image/ block colour Dark colours CD disk Colored/bright image Band name on CD Spine Plain and basic Record label Alum name Band name

Plan for final shoot of filming

We are planning to finish the filming for our narrative by Monday the 20th of November. On Monday we are going to film the scenes from the beginning and end of our video which includes Alex initially taking of his mask. The only equipment we will require for this shoot is the camera and tripod alongside the LED lights. We are going to film this at Lucy's house. The shots we are going to film are: Start of the video- looking in the mirror and taking his mask off, exposing his word 'weak' on his forehead.  End of video- looking in mirror deciding to keep mask on, leaving with mask on.

Checking the weather for Saturdays filming

Image
On Saturday, we are planning on filming our narrative footage between 9am-3pm. We are wanting to film out outdoor scenes around the marina in Royal Queys. We checked the weather to make sure that it isn't going to rain so we don't get the equipment wet, luckily its forecast for sun!

Digipack over view

Image
With the deadlines creeping up on us (very quickly...), we thought that instead of 3 of us watching 1 person edit then taking turns, we split into 2 groups for today's lesson. Helen and Caitlin edited for this lesson, while Lucy and Olivia started to do some more further in depth research into the digipack. Me and Olivia started off by researching album covers from the following Indie style bands/artists... Bastille (as our song is by this band) Two Door Cinema Club The Wombats Radio Head The Smiths Mumford and Son The Kooks Some background info on the Digipack... We are asked to create the MINIMUM of 4 panes of a CD case. Here are some examples of the 4 panes we can create. The front, back, spine (OUTSIDE) and front, back & spine (INSIDE) and the actually CD its self. But... as we are a strong group of 4, we have decided to create the WHOLE CD cover! This includes the Front x2, Back x2, Spine x2, 2 inside panels AND the physical CD design its self! We feel like ...

Editing problems agggggggh

So half way through today's lesson, Premiere crashed!!!!! This deleted all of our footage that we had edited in the lesson. For the rest of the lesson we haven't been able to do anything with our video. However to ensure we aren't losing any valuable time, as a group we have created a first sketch of our digi pack. To make up this editing time, Helen and Olivia are planning to stay behind at lunch to get some done as we feel although we are slightly behind. Below is an image of the first sketch of our digi pack.

Plan for filming on Saturday

So on Saturday we are planning to finish a large chunk of our filming. We are filming in the same location as last time but in the day light. Last time we filmed here we didn't work very efficiently so in order to prevent this happening again we have created a plan for what we intend to do. Here is what we have planned (IMAGE)

Uploading & Watching the Performance

Straight after the shoot on Tuesday evening, we uploaded the footage top the computer to make sure that if the footage was to be deleted, we had it backed up on the computer. Today was the first lesson were all sat down together and watched all the footage. We picked out footage we thought was successful and dragged it into the timeline so we could have a play around when we come to actually edit the footage. We are really pleased with the footage we filmed as we think we have met all the targets we set for our self's on what shots we needed to film.

Bastille Advert

Image
This is the advert for Bastille's album 'Bad Blood'. They have used the same image on this poster as they have for their album cover. The image itself is set at night with the effect of a car headlight lighting the photo. However they have used a photograph whereas some other posters use a graphic design or drawing as their main image. We will probably use a photo on our poster and we may use a nighttime shoot however it would make it harder to light. The band logo has been used and the signature triangular 'A' has been used in both the band logo and title of the album. When we create a band logo we will use it throughout the project on the digipak and poster. Above 'Bastille' the poster says 'Bad Steel Presents'. At first I assumed this was the record label but after researching I found out it isn't a real company and simply a name created by the group used to make the poster look like a film poster. If we wanted to incorporate this style ...

Bastille Digipak Research

Image
The album's main image shows the lead singer running in the middle of the road. This creates a rebellious tone, which matches the title of the album 'Bad Blood'. The faded effect and dark lighting reflects the genre of the music on the album, which had a negative and dark tone to it. The image is quite thought provoking as it makes the purchaser question what is going on, giving it a mysterious feel. Also, the same font is used for the album title and the band's name. The album's back cover is quite simple because its purpose is show the songs. Next to the name of each song, it states the duration of the song in a smaller font. The image correlates the image on the front cover.

Preperation for filming the band

In order to get filming off to a smooth start, as a group, we went down to the drama studio an hour before the band members came to set up the music equipment (e.g. set drums up, place guitars where we want the band members to stand and set up all the filming equipment. Here is a list of jobs that we had to do before the band members came: Collect the correct equipment from the media room Set up the drum kit, guitars and microphone stand Set up the tripods and ensure that lighting on the camera is correct Set up the dolly Set up the shoulder mount By going earlier and preparing our self for the filming of the band, it meant that we were more organised and could get on with filming as we were limited with time. We also got the help from our teacher to help us set up the lighting in the drama studio, so that we got the best quality footage. In our rough cut we only used LED's and redheads, however we decided that it looked slightly too bright. In our final cut we are goi...

Equipment for Filming Performance

To make our performance look as professional as possible, we decided to use the equipment available so that we can get a range of different static and moving shots. The type of equipment we used was... The dolly Crane Shoulder Mount Fixed lens Zoom lens. As well as the technical equipment, we also used the professional stage lighting in the Drama Studio. This included... Flashing multi colored stage lights Spot lights to illuminate specific parts of the room 1 LED light placed under the drummer so that out drummer Katie was lit up. We also used instrumental equipment, which we took from the media room all the way to the drama room.. The list of equipment we booked out was  The drum skit (including symbols) Electric guitar Mic and stand As we didn't have a bass, we asked one of the band members if they would be able to bring their bass, which they agreed to do!

Filming the Band Performance

Image
Last night, we shot the band performance in the drama studio. We were really pleased with the footage because the band looked really professional on camera. We used flashing lights to match the pace of the video and make it look more effective. We filmed a wide range of shots using the shoulder mount, dolly and the crane; shooting low angles, high angles, canted angels, close ups, long shots and side shots. Therefore, we feel we have more than enough to make our music video look as professional as possible. 1:15- Lucy and Helen went to set up at the drama studio an hour earlier than the rest of us arrived. This meant that as soon as the band arrived we were able to start filming straight away. 2:00- Everything was set up with the camera equipment and instruments. 2:15- Mr Convery came to show us how to work all of the lighting, speaker and the crane. Olivia was in charge of the lighting and music. 2:30- The band arrived and we gave them brief of what was going to happen. 2:45- We...

Finishing the Drum Cover

Image
This morning, we completed our drum cover so that it was ready for our performance shoot this afternoon. Here is a photo of the finished cover.

Editing Green Screen- Mask Footage

Image
Yesterday we filmed our final scene where the mask comes towards the camera, creating the idea that even the audience have to conform to society by wearing a mask. We used the green screen so that when it came to editing we could change it to a pitch black background. This would create the idea that the protagonists ideal world, where everyone takes their masks off, wasn't possible because society is dark and no one can truly be who they really are.

Plan for our band performance tommorow

On Tuesday we are filming our band performance, we have changed our band members as we don't believe they were suitable for our video. In order to get some good quality footage I believe that a plan should be put into place to ensure this with is the reason for the shot list on one of our previous blogs'. In order to make these shots look the best quality they can possibly be, we are also going to use a range of equipment, such as the dolly- to create moving smooth shots, the shoulder mount to create steady handheld movement and the heavy tripod for smooth pans of the band. We are starting to film at 2:15 in the drama studio where we will meet our band however we are going an hour earlier to set up. For the recording of this performance, we have all taken on a role: Olivia and Helen are responsible for going into the drama studio earlier than 2:15 to set up all of the equipment and instruments etc. This is to make sure that we have as much filming time as possible.  ...

Introduction to digipacks and adverts

Image
Today we had our first proper introductory lesson to digipacks and adverts, looking at examples from previous year groups and what was expected to be included on each. Our digipack must be a special edition album for our band and the advert must be advertising the release of this album. Here is some more information about this:

Logo for the bass drum skin

Image
Today we began to create the logo for the drum skin. After changing our name for the band this morning to 'Indigo Moon', we tested fonts and decided to base our logo on the font 'lemon milk'. We drew this on black sugar paper and cut it out. We are still undecided on whether or not to use the moons on the Os in the word moon or whether to leave them black so we are going to ask our class and our teachers for their opinion after the weekend. Here are our two options:

Band Logo Audience Research

Today we went around the class and asked them which one out of our ideas that they preferred. Here are the results: 3 people voted for the first idea 10 people voted for the second idea 2 people voted for the last idea So we have decided to choose idea 2 which is sing the 2 O's to create 2 full moons using the font 'Lemon Milk' from Dafont.

Changing of the band name

Image
After planning to call or band 'Blue Moon' for the past few weeks, we have suddenly decided against this idea at the last minute due to too many references it is associated with... When telling Mr Bland that our band is called 'Blue Moon' the first thing the came to mind was the Manchester Football song 'Blue Moon.' But after us debating that we have never even heard of the song 'Blue Moon' we asked another teacher what the first thing that came to mind was when he thought of the word 'Blue Moon' and to our surprise he said Beer. So we have also discovered that not only is the name Blue Moon associated with a 'Classic' Football song, but it is also associated with the Beer Blue Moon! Here is a screen shot, showing that 44,700,000 results came up for Blue Moon in google, including a lot of cultural Manchester references and the Beer Blue Moon! So... after brain storming band names, we have come up with the name 'Indigo Moon...

Shot list for Tuesday

Image
Today we planned all the shots we would need to film during the band performance on Tuesday. This will help us keep organised on the day of the shoot as we can just go through them methodically and not worry about forgetting any. Here are the shots we need to film and how long we think it will take:

Font for our logo

Image
Here are the 4 fonts that we chose as a group from the website 'Dafont'. As a group we decided on the top one as it is bold and would stand out on the blue background. This font is called 'Lemon Milk'.

Exploring logo ideas

In today's lesson, we looked into different phases of the moon to see which one would look most effective on our logo. We re going to use 2 images of moons to replace the 2 O's in 'Moon'. This will make the logo look much more effective than just having plain font. To the left are the some of the ideas that we come up with as a group. 2 of us have said that we prefer Idea 2 and 2 have said that we prefer Idea 3. So we have decided to do some audience research to see which one is most popular and help us decide. In tomorrows lesson we are going to choose the font of our logo using the website 'Dafont'.

Meet our new band members

Looking back at our rough cut footage we felt that our original band did not suit our song genre as well as we originally thought. They also looked slightly too young. Therefore, we opted for a new band, who looked older. Also, we felt that their look best fitted the indie-pop genre. The people we have chosen aren't a band together like the band we used in our rough cut. However the people we have chosen are all a part of different bands. They have all been apart of bands and played their instruments/performed for a long period of time which shows they are very confident in playing the instruments and performing. However, the only problem we have is that they haven't performed together before but they are all good friends so we think this will work. Singer Adam Clayton- Adam is our singer and his been a singer in the band 'Mayfare' for over a year now. We have all seen him perform in this band and all agree his is a very good and confident singer that would fit in we...

Plan of what we need to re film

While we were editing some of the footage, we realised that we need to re film a couple of scenes in the day light, instead of how we originally filmed it- at night. The footage that we filmed of Helen dropping her mask and going to knock on Alex's door (Main protagonist) is filmed at night time, but there is a large proportion of the video we need to film straight after that clip. After Helen gets Alex, we planned on them walking through the streets and people looking at them and shaking their heads because they don't have their masks on, however this just wouldn't look good filmed in the dark. So we have decided that this Saturday, we are going to totally re shoot this whole scene, but shot it in the day light for 2 reasons. 1. The scenes wont match each other if 1 second it is night time and a few seconds later, it is day light. 2. Day light lighting is clearer, looks better and looks more professional.

So far with the editing

We are currently making good progress with our editing and are happy with what we have got so far. In these next few lessons we are editing the footage that we filmed yesterdays at the Marina. Some of the footage has turned out really well where as others is not so good. Some of the scenes we are planning to re film due to the lighting not being up to a good standard. We are going to re film this on Saturday.

Editing last nights footage

Today we put last nights footage on to premier and decided which scenes we could use in the music video. We found that the 'fall out' scene between the protagonist and his girlfriend was too dark because we filmed at 5pm when the sun was setting and therefore we need to organise a date to re-film it. However, we were happy with the 'apology' scene. This enabled us to edit this footage today.

Filming at Royal Quays Marina

Image
Today we all went down Royal Quays Marina where we filmed some of the narrative. The scenes we filmed were the ones towards the end of the video therefore we scheduled our filming time so that it was going to be dark when we filmed. We used the LED lights in order to make sure that the lighting looked professional and you could see everything clearly. To ensure our lighting looked professional we also used the button circled red below to lock the lighting. This made sure that the lighting wouldn't change as we moved the camera. For example we used this when filming outside to stop the sky from turning white and lighting up the full shot. Other equipment that we used today includes: Shoulder mount- used for tracking shots Fixed lens- used for still shots when intending to do deep focus' and shallow focus' Dolly- Also used for tracking shots however we didn't find this peace of equipment as effective as the shoulder mount as it was very bumpy which therefore didn...

Start of the drum skin cover

Image
In todays lesson, Olivia and Caitlin started to create a drum skin for our band performance next week. We decided to make this as in our research we identified that many bands have these in their video, this will give our video an element of professionalism. So far, we have created an blue ombre effect using paints. We done this as it matches our band name 'Blue Moon'. Next we are planning to create a logo that we will put on it using black card.

Lunchtime filming

Image
Today we filmed 10 different people, each with a word on their head during lunchtime. We plan to use this to create a fast paced piece of footage during a fast part of the song. We used a range of different people to show difference in society which is on of the messages we hope to convey throughout our video. As a group we were very efficient during this shoot as each person had a different responsibility which worked really well: Caitlin was responsible for getting 5 people to film and write the words on them 5 people's heads. She was also responsible for bringing the eyeliner and wipes to write the words. Olivia was responsible for getting another 5 people and writing the words on their heads. Lucy was responsible for booking out the equipment and bringing it to the studio Helen was responsible for the actual filming which we all helped with
